Harpalus affinis (=Harpalus aeneus)

Carabidae

Harpalus

I found this Carabid in my mother's bath today, 18th May 2002, luckily she wasn't in it at the time, Sheffield S. Yorks. O.S. Ref. SK3985.   It is about 11 mm long, the metallic colour varies from green to pinkish depending on point of view.   Quoting Paul Mabbott

"Harpalus affinis does enter houses but not as commonly in Yorkshire as in the S.E.; it is a common resident of cultivated soil".

The pictures were produced with the aid of CombineZ from several individual pictures.

This picture is of Harpalus affinis captured in the Sheffield area of South Yorkshire UK

These close-ups of the elytra show the punctures on interstice 3, which are hard to see and not to be confused with the dints on interstice 1, and small hair-bearing pits on the outer interstices.
